Initiating a little good by eliminating plastic with Allcargo Greens
Plastic bags, one of our best modern-day conveniences, has become a threat. A person uses a plastic carrier bag on average for only 12 minutes. On an average we only recycle one plastic bag in every 200 we use. 3.5 million tons plastic waste is generated across the globe per day. Allcargo Greens is constantly in the process of improving our environment and are committed to make the world a better place.
‘No-Plastic Drive’ – a milestone step to eliminate use of plastic bags was launched in Mumbai on 30 March. Simultaneously, our offices in Baroda and Pune joined the initiative from their respective locations by distributing cotton shopping bags in the neighbouring residential areas.
It’s a matter of pride that our colleagues volunteered to participate in this initiative and distributed cotton bags while creating awareness about the damage that plastic bags have created to the environment. Residents from the neighbourhood responded positively by welcoming the change and pledged to reduce the use of plastic in their daily chores.
We believe that to bring attitude change regarding elimination of plastic, it is essential to approach younger generation for they have more acceptance and power for adaptation.
Cashing on this belief our volunteers discussed the adverse effects of plastic pollution with families as they visited the neighbourhood and tried to imbibe a sense of responsibility in them by educating them about the impact of sustainable methods of living. Each visit con-cluded with Allcargo Greens volunteers handing over a cloth shopping bag to each house-holder.
We aim to contribute our bit to the environment through such small initiatives and look forward towards taking the Greens goal across our entire global network.
