Raising the bar in lifting loads

Lifting heavy loads successfully The Ultratech Dhar project is the most recent testament to Allcargo’s leadership in the crane rentals business

The Indian government’s outlay of investment in infrastructure projects has made cement companies bullish on their plans to beef up production. Several projects are underway in every part of the country. Over a five-year period, cement demand is projected to increase at 6-7% CAGR, according to a CRISIL report.

Allcargo is a front runner when it comes to engaging with cement manufacturers. With its stellar record, Allcargo has worked with leading cement companies such as Shree Cement, Dalmia and ACC and Lafarge, providing them with the best in class crane rental solutions. The company has managed to surge ahead through a judicious blend of customer focus, passion and unwavering standards of delivery quality.

Our project & engineering division has proven itself as a seasoned player in this sector. We have supported major manufacturing and construction companies in setting up greenfield and brownfield projects. Our operating philosophy has stood us in good stead in securing crane rental contracts from industry leaders, and the way we approach each assignment differentiates us from others. Backed by robust safety standards and a technical expertise built over the years, we try and address potential client needs with the best available solution, which sometimes exceeds our deliverables.

A case in point is UltraTech Cement, one of our prestigious clients for almost a decade. The company is currently setting up a new 3.5 MT per annum integrated cement plant at Dhar in Madhya Pradesh. Recently, Allcargo was awarded an order for two heavy 400MT crawler cranes with full configuration, for this project.

”Initially the enquiry was for 300MT and 400MT. However, after a detailed study including a site visit and technical inspection, Allcargo proposed the best suitable configuration of two cranes of identical capacity (400 tonne) with a total boom length of 168m. This proposition requires skills which Allcargo team has successfully brought on the table,” says Shibu Joseph, Senior GM-business development, project and engineering at Allcargo.

During the first week of November 2017, Allcargo’s same capacity 400MT cranes were used for 6 kiln shell erections at the Dhar project site. A total of 600MT was carried out with these two cranes in just six hours, which is possibly a record in the Indian cement industry. ”It is also a unique feat in the cement industry. The right crane capacity for such projects is crucial for smooth operations at the site,” adds Mr Joseph.

Allcargo deployed two Demag CC 2400-1 cranes with full configuration of 84 metre main boom 84 metre luffing jib.

The company enjoys a strong track record of working with companies in the sectors like Steel, Power, Oil and Gas Refineries. The multi-sector focus has served us well in spreading our risks across a wider portfolio of diverse clients while delivering our services.

The challenges and opportunities posed by each sector make crane rentals a complex business to be in. As part of Allcargo’s integrated logistics bouquet, we benefit immensely from the cutting-edge practices and systems offered by our parent group. The most recent infrastructure status accorded to the Indian logistics industry will now bring an additional and much-needed impetus. This is expected to infuse greater investments in the logistics sector, bring easier and better loan financing options, and eventually helping grow its size and reach.

”This is just the beginning. Soon, operating standards in the industry will improve, and so will the requirement for cranes,” says Mr Joseph.
