Enhancing trade in Nepal    

When one thinks of Nepal, tourism is often the first word that comes to mind. But soon the Himalayan country will also be known for its ease of trade, with new marine services launched by the Allcargo – TransNepal joint venture, in collaboration with Master Marine services.

Allcargo Terminals Limited which offers one of India’s widest CFS networks, through its joint venture with TransNepal Freight Services, is bolstering trade in Nepal. Allcargo Terminal’s Kolkata CFS plays a pivotal role in this endeavor on account of its strategic proximity to Nepal.

Nestled between two trade powerhouses, China and India, Nepal enjoys significant strategic advantages. Even though it is landlocked, Nepal has easy access to Kolkata, Haldia and Vizag ports via road and rail. For businesses to maximize the potential of this connectivity, the region required end-to-end marine services that help simplify trade and cargo movements.  

In view of the immense opportunities in Nepal and to cater to this specific, but burgeoning demand, marine services were launched in Birgunj and Biratnagar, with a view to also extend it to other EXIM junctions.

Quality and convenience 

In a move that will enable shipping lines with an extra seal of quality check,  a wide range of solutions are offered: import laden and empty return; export empty pick up; joint survey container; joint survey container and cargo; stuffing and destuffing survey and tally; ISO tank container survey; ODC cargo lashing/choking survey and certification for safe sea passage – all with the benefit of digital documentation and real-time container tracking.   

Essentially it is a one-stop solution for trade to and from Nepal, enriching the business and industry fraternity’s experience with quick, effective, services that bolster businesses.   

Giving Nepal a boost

This is the latest customer centric move on behalf of TransNepal Freight Services, which for the past two decades, has been facilitating trade in Nepal, through its excellent management of ICDs in Biratnagar, Bhairahawa, Kakarbhitta, and Tatopani. TransNepal also offers agency services for loading import containers to Nepal from Kolkata and Vizag, and serves over 300 customers monthly, facilitating safe, seamless cargo movements. Maintenance and repair (M&R) services are also provided.

Further, the Allcargo-Transnepal Joint Venture recently secured the coveted LOI for a five-year contract to manage the Choubhar CFS in Kathmandu, Nepal, taking the number of ICD-ICPs (Inland Container Depot/Integrated Check Post) in Nepal, under the management of the Allcargo-Transnepal JV to three.
