Avashya Outreach: CSR initiatives by Allcargo

Enthused by our core value of Care for Environment and Society, our CSR arm, Avashya Foundation has been creating tangible change in the areas of Education, Environment, Health, Women Empowerment, Disaster Relief and Sports. Here, we are happy to share with you the progress in our endeavours to create a better world.

Maitree is recognized as “Best Biodiversity Initiative of the Year – 2024”

In alignment with our ESG goal to be carbon neutral by 2040, we have been planting trees under Project Maitree – our unique project to green the earth’s surface, while simultaneously uplifting local communities. So far, over 1 million fruit-bearing trees have been planted in tribal regions of Maharashtra, benefiting more than 20,000 farmers.

Recognising the impact of this initiative in securing the local ecology, Maitree was named the “Best Biodiversity Initiative of the Year –  2024” at the Global CSR, Sustainability, and ESG Awards held in Gurgaon, recently.

What sets Maitree apart from other afforestation campaigns is its twin objective to provide an alternate means of livelihood to tribal farmers, who often not only hold marginal land holdings but are also wanting in the skills needed to practice agriculture effectively.

Identified basis a rigorous criteria, these farmers are imparted skill training to look after the fruit bearing trees and are able to boost their incomes by selling the produce –  mangoes, cashew, neem, sapota etc.

In fact, each year farmers bring their harvest of organically grown mangoes to Allcargo House, our headquarters in Mumbai for sale.

To help them monetise their efforts, Project Maitree has been linked to Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act scheme (MGNREGA). This recognises the effort of caring for the trees as productive labour, for which they are remunerated accordingly.

Going a step further, a Farmer Producer Organization has also been set up to help the farmers access market linkages.

This prestigious award not only celebrates our commitment to environmental sustainability but also highlights our dedication to empowering local communities.

Maitree Project exemplifies the harmonious blend of environmental sustainability and community support, and like its name has become a true friend to the environment and farmers.

Skilling the youth to be future-ready

We believe an empowered youth will lead to a better tomorrow. Our Allcargo Skill Development Center (ASDC), run in collaboration with JNPA-CIDCO, at Uran and Belapur, Maharashtra, offers market-relevant courses in logistics and allied fields to help young people become job-ready.

The training at ASDC combines theoretical and practical components with a 40:60 ratio, ensuring students gain hands-on industry experience.

Enabling employment

The Allcargo Skill Development Center in Belapur was delighted to hold its first placement drive. The initiative was designed to link students with exciting job opportunities, and empower them to achieve personal growth while enabling them to support their families and make meaningful contributions to society.

Companies from diverse sectors, including logistics, IT, banking & finance, aviation, retail, and healthcare, participated, showcasing the incredible range of opportunities available to our students. The positive response highlighted the placement drive’s effectiveness in bridging the gap between eager students and potential employers.

Gaining real world experience with internships

Going a step further, Allcargo Logistics and Allcargo Terminals have jointly initiated an internship program for ASDC’s trained students. Of the 16 candidates interviewed at Allcargo Terminals, seven students were selected for the company’s second internship programme.

Since internships are crucial in a student’s education, empowering students to explore various career paths, develop essential skills, and gain a competitive edge in today’s job market, we are thrilled that the students from ASDC are getting this opportunity.

As Allcargo continues to nurture talent and foster growth, we look forward to seeing these youngsters make their mark in the world.

Celebrating Compassion: Jeevan Project recognised  at Sion Hospital’s 77th Foundation Day

Good health is a cornerstone of a good life. However, with access and affordability of quality healthcare being a challenge for India’s underprivileged communities, we run various healthcare initiatives for people affected by various diseases such as cancer, leprosy, as well as for the hearing and visually challenged individuals, along with surgery support and nutrition and medical care support.

The aptly named Jeevan Project is one of our most important projects in the intervention area of health. It has been implemented for the last 11 years serving underprivileged patients at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital and Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and Charitable Hospital, Mumbai, more commonly known as Sion Hospital.

The project has been serving patients with the objective of providing psychosocial counselling, medical and educational assistance, and livelihood support to infected and affected persons with various diseases.

Sion Hospital, recently marked its 77th Foundation Day. On this occasion where they celebrated their journey starting from a 10 bed establishment to becoming a cornerstone for healthcare delivery in the city of Mumbai, it was an honour to be recognised by the hospital trust for the consistent healthcare outreach offered by the Jeevan Project.

This felicitation is a testament to the will to create an enabling health ecosystem through collaborations built on care and mutual concern for the welfare of those who most need support.
