Life-saving surgery – the need of the hour

Allcargo Logistics helps individuals with support to give them a second chance at life.

There are various ailments for which surgery is the only remedy. But the high level of complexity which needs expertise, professional care, and the associated infrastructure makes it a very expensive procedure. For those from economically vulnerable families, surgery and the associated costs may stress their already delicate means of survival.

As per the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Health Expenditure database on India, the out-of-pocket healthcare expenditure ranged from 85.5 % to 89.0 % between the years 2010 to 2015. In 2015, an estimated 8% of the Indian population had been pushed below the poverty line by high out-of-pocket payments for health care. (Kumar, et al., 2015).

To help give such people a fair chance at survival and mitigate the financial burden, Allcargo Logistics helps them with the required surgery through the support it gives to the SRCC Children’s Hospital. This year over 50 people who needed help with BMT, cardiology, Cochlear Implant, critical care management, gastroenterology, liver transplant, medical management, neonatal, neurosurgery, oncology, and orthopedic procedures benefitted from it.

While most of the beneficiaries are from Mumbai or surrounding areas, few hail from the interiors of Maharashtra and other states as well.

We are happy to be able to help people with a new lease of life, and consider ourselves lucky that we could make a difference to the lives of people.
