Meet the true champions!

True champions are not always the one’s that win, but those with the most guts. – Mia Hamm

Hard work, perseverance and a lot of confidence and strength is needed to accomplish and be a part of the success story that we tell. A true champion is a person who always believes in himself when no one else does and never loses sight of his goal even when the surroundings are blurred.

As we step into the new Olympic and Paralympic cycle for Paris 2024, one of the key milestones in the journey is the upcoming 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK from 28th July – 8th August. India is sending a strong contingent of 215 athletes in 16 sports. Out of these, the 22 athletes in wrestling, badminton, boxing, weightlifting, javelin, table-tennis and para-weight lifting, are supported by OGQAvashya Foundation’s proud partner.

Some key stats of the group of these 22 athletes are:

At the 2018 CWG, 19 of the 66 medals for India were won by athletes supported by OGQ, including 11 of the 26 Gold medals won by India. At the 2022 CWG in Birmingham, Shooting is not included and thus we expect some reduction in India’s overall medal tally.

Some of the key medal contenders for 2022 CWG are:

  • Olympain wresters Ravi Kumar, Anshu Malik, Deepak Punia
  • 20 year old Lakshya Sen and Double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu
  • Tokyo medalists Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain
  • Tokyo Paralympic Silver medalist Bhavina Patel

New OGQ Initiative: In our endeavour to supporting the Indian athletes in their journey to the Olympic podium, OGQ has entered into MOUs with Sports Authority of India for Cycling & National Sports Federations of Boxing and Shooting. Through this arrangement, OGQ will provide world class sports science support to athletes in the Indian National Camps for the sports of Boxing, Shooting & Cycling.

“Thank you Avashya Foundation, for your continued long term belief in OGQ. Your support enables us to ensure our athletes train at world class levels, win medals for India and bring great pride to our nation.” – says Viren Rasquinha, director of OGQ .
