Ask anyone what their most important sense organ is, and most would respond without a doubt – the eye. Our eyes are our window to the world, and any sort of eye ailment, even something as basic as weak eyesight could significantly affect not only the quality of one’s life but also the ability to earn a livelihood.
For families from low-income communities, on account of scant resources, treating these issues either poses a financial challenge, or is deferred to focus on more pressing health issues.
Drushti, one of our important healthcare initiatives, is specifically aimed at promoting eye health. We approach low-income communities with regular eye camps, enabling early detection of eye ailments thereby making it easier for them to access the right kind of treatment. Where needed, spectacles are provided, and those identified with cataract issues are connected to tertiary healthcare centres for surgical care.
In a recent Drushti camp, where over 400 individuals registered, other health parameters were also checked. By approaching communities with such initiatives, healthcare becomes a lot more accessible. Early screening of ailments and providing a touchpoint for accessible healthcare facilities where needed, have proven to be very effective in promoting good health.
