Seven eye check-up camps were organised in slum communities in Mumbai with the objectives to screen the patients, to create awareness regarding the health of eyes and early detection and treatment of prevalent diseases, and to distribute medicines and spectacles to those who need them. Among the screened patients, those who needed surgeries were also referred for further treatment by the doctors at the health camps. The camps were organised throughout the months of September and October, 2023.
A total of 2299 patients were screened through these seven camps, and 66 patients with cataract were noticed and referred for surgeries. A total of 980 spectacles were also distributed. The camps were conducted in the slum communities of densely populated areas in Mumbai including Kurla, Chembur, Mankhurd, Ghatkopar and Sakina.
