Sewing bright futures – one step at a time

When women thrive, communities flourish. With this belief, and the aim to empower women and help them with opportunities to earn their livelihood, the Avashya Foundation’s Nipun Project started the Women Empowerment and Livelihood – Tailoring Training Program at Nipun’s skill training centre, located at CIDCO, in Uran, in September 2023.

This project was also started at Panvel and Digha, to impart skill development training through tailoring courses to women from Adivasi Padas in the area of Dhamni and Ishwar Nagar,  and the surrounding villages. A total of 240 women have been trained at the two training centres in Dhamni and Ishwar Nagar.

At Uran, this was the pilot batch and began with 50 women beneficiaries, divided into 2 groups of 25 women each. The course was conducted for three months, where on an average, each beneficiary received 234 hours of training throughout the course duration.

The Nipun Project’s skill training center is a collaborative effort between Allcargo Terminals and Sankalp Manav Vikas Sanstha. This pilot project aims to establish a small-scale manufacturing unit and provide vocational training to marginalized and economically under-served women in the area aiming to empower them and improve their employment prospects. By acquiring practical skills, these women will have the opportunity to generate income and become self-sustained. The center aims to support these women in obtaining a livelihood and improving their financial independence.

Training programs are scheduled keeping in mind the needs and responsibilities of these women at their homes, to ensure maximum participation.

Apart from this, the women are also given training in various soft skills such as communication, marketing their products, leadership, and public speaking, and career guidance.
