Resource-efficient systems for everything we do are the need of the hour. They form the cornerstones of sustainability and environmental stewardship. When it is about minimising food-waste, the system demands a holistic approach, encompassing interventions, awareness, innovation, and collaboration.
To minimise wastage of food at canteen facilities, Allcargo Supply Chain’s warehouses in Bengaluru launched the Sustainability drive for food waste optimisation, with the benefits of improved process quality, approximately 10% saving on food cost, and reducing the carbon footprint from food wastage.
Mitigating food waste helps in various environment friendly ways, such as combating climate change by decreasing methane emissions from decomposing food in landfills, conservation of precious natural resources such as water, land, and energy that are used in food production, and saving money by optimizing supply chains and reducing disposal costs.
The Sustainability drive is being carried out in a simple and efficient way. Food tokens are distributed to all members at the time of arrival, depending on whether they want to opt for lunch at the workplace. The requirement is communicated to the vendor who supplies food accordingly.
