Maitree Mango Sale at Allcargo House

We are thrilled to share that Maitree Project, our unique initiative to green the earth’s surface has borne fruit.

The Maitree Project, spearheaded by Allcargo Logistics Limited, focuses on planting trees and supporting tribal and marginal farmers in western Maharashtra, particularly Karjat, Jawhar and Mokhada villages. This initiative aligns with our ESG objective of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040, and also enhances the economic well-being of these farmers. Over a million trees have been planted under this initiative.

Under the Maitree Project, farmers are empowered with skills and knowledge essential for nurturing the trees, as well as selling the fruits, enabling them to sustain themselves by commercializing the fruits. Farmers are also incentivized through the Government of India’s MNREGA scheme that remunerates the farmers for looking after the trees. Further, a Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) that Avashya Foundation helped set up is enabling them to gain access to market linkages. This approach fosters economic independence and uplifts the livelihoods of tribal farmers.

Each year the farmers bring their harvest to Allcargo’s head office in Mumbai to sell the fruits. This year was no different, and in what can be considered a testament to the quality of the organic produce before the day was over all the mangoes were sold out.

Each mango purchased supported the livelihoods of tribal farmers, allowing participants to enjoy organic, sustainable produce while contributing to positive change.
