Employee engagement for high performance

Allcargo is winning in the workplace as well “Our goal is to be counted amongst India’s, and the world’s, best workplaces and to be seen as an employer of choice in the logistics domain” — Shashi Kiran Shetty, Chairman, Allcargo Logistics Ltd.

Allcargo Logistics’ recognition as a ‘Great Place To Work’ in the recently released Great Place to Work (GPTW) Employee Survey 2019, in the ‘companies with 1000+ employees’ category, resonates with the Chairman’s vision. Allcargo’s score in the high 70s in the study reflects its commendable efforts in implementing employee-friendly best practices and success in creating a positive work environment for its employees.

This positive verdict from the employees assumes special relevance given the timing of the award, as Allcargo marches forward in its journey from SILVER to GOLD. Allcargo completed 25 years of successful operations in 2018, marking its Silver Jubilee, since the commencement of the business, way back in 1993. Today, Allcargo is a leading multinational company in the logistics space that boasts of revenues of over Rs6,000 crores (2018), backed by committed employees, who strongly believe in Allcargo’s vision and are leading its growth.

“It’s a moment of pride for us”, said Mr Shetty. “Our score in GPTW Employee Survey 2019 reflects our commitment to make Allcargo Logistics a truly ‘Great Place To Work’. It also underlines the efforts that all people managers take to engage with and motivate team members with their people-savvy leadership. The responses, comments and suggestions of the participants will guide us, as we continuously review and redesign our people processes and practices. We are committed to attract, retain and engage the best talent through a vibrant and empowering work environment”, he added.

In the survey, the employees have appreciated Allcargo’s policies on diverse aspects, namely Competence, Credibility, High Ethical Standards of Management and Inclusiveness in Management Approach. The employees have approved of the HR policies that proactively encourage career growth and provide opportunities to work, learn and grow professionally. Further, they have reaffirmed their pride at being associated with Allcargo, given its reputation and brand value, with special mention of the company’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility.

Allcargo believes its employees to be its greatest assets. A business can prosper only with the efforts and contribution of its workforce. The scale, magnitude, scope and spread of business operations that Allcargo has achieved in the past 25 years is owing to the hard work of its employees. The company began with humble origins, fledgling assets, a dream to succeed and a sincere, dedicated workforce.

Since then, Allcargo has achieved several milestones. Today, Allcargo operates out of Avvashya House, its corporate HQ and a unique landmark in Mumbai, the financial capital of India. The credit for this can largely be attributed to Allcargo’s skilled and talented employees, who have stood firmly with the company, throughout — be it the phases of challenges, opportunities, the business ups and the downs — and added value.

The GPTW Employee Survey is the world’s most widely used model to understand employee perceptions about their workplace. Independent research shows that organisations that are great workplaces outperform the market three-fold and have half the employee attrition. A good score in the Great Place to Work Trust Index is indicative of enhanced productivity, innovation, optimal costs and improvement in business metrics.

As part of the certification process, GPTW evaluates the organisation on two key indicators- the Trust Index Employee Survey and the Culture Audit Management Questionnaire. Allcargo has performed well on both fronts.

Allcargo’s employees have helped strengthen the company in every business vertical — be it NVOCC, CFS and ICD, projects and engineering solutions, e-commerce logistics, contract logistics or logistics and industrial parks. Employees have pushed the envelope in every business sphere and enabled Allcargo to touch greater heights of success. Behind Allcargo’s accolades, laurels and stellar business performance is each and every dedicated, loyal employee. Allcargo wholeheartedly thanks its employees for their immense contribution.

Allcargo considers its employees as equal partners and collaborators in its growth story. In reciprocation, Allcargo would leave no stone unturned to continue to improve the employee experience.

As Doug Conant, CEO of Campbell’s Soup rightly said; “To win in the marketplace you must first win in the workplace.”
