To give a helping hand to youngsters desirous making it big in the world of logistics and supply chain, the global logistics conglomerate and one of India’s largest integrated logistics service providers, Allcargo Group, recently inducted students into three of its Management Trainee Programmes, giving more than 60 young minds the opportunity to embark on a journey of corporate growth and self-development.
Drawn from some of the top institutions in the country, a few of these young graduates were selected straight out of campus, while others joined the Group after gaining a few years of experience. The young guns hail from imminent education institutes such as Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Udaipur, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Nagpur, IIM Indore, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), SIBM, BIMTECH, XIME, NALSAR, NMIMS, Amity University, CII Institute of Logistics and come from cities across the country such as Coimbatore, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Pune, Mumbai and others.
Training the next generation of leaders
Intensive training with hands-on work experience is provided for them to not only be able to successfully step into their new corporate roles but also become future leaders.
Whether it is Velocity – the Group-wide Management Trainee Programme, Aarambh – Allcargo Logistics’ Management Trainee Programme, or Axelerate – Gati-KWE’s Management Trainee Programme, the core of each of these programmes is to empower them with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the logistics sector. Each of the programmes strikes a balance between intensive knowledge absorption and on-ground experience.
Velocity follows the 70:20:10 methodology of learning, that is, 70% experience, through live projects, 20% exposure through shadowing and mentoring and 10% education through instructor led training or e-learning. The program is in 3 phases – READY, GET SET & GO and includes facility visits, leadership interactions, functional and leadership training sessions, cross-functional and action learning projects to gain valuable insights as a trainee with advancement potential to a managerial role across the group.
In Aarambh, the 1-year training programme is characterised by quarterly reviews and various learning opportunities. The program entails exposure to the length and breadth of the organization – through learning sessions, interactions with leaders across the group, assigned mentors, shadow stints and action learning projects. There is a lot of emphasis given to enable swifter integration of the trainees and also to settle into roles successfully.
The Axelerate management trainees go through a structured program for one year through cross functions in the 6+6 model exposure to distribution operations, business development, support function that complements knowledge of operations. They are posted across locations and functions on a rotational basis to gain maximum exposure.
Project management, change management, leadership skills and digital transformation, personal effectiveness, team synergy and unification, contribution mind-set, ownership and accountability, understanding customer orientation, becoming a first time manager, and managerial communication and conflict resolution etc. are some vital areas of business that the trainees get exposure to. This is complemented by cross-business and cross-functional training, and familiarization with operations and processes across various facilities.
