Planting a million trees to ensure a fruitful future for generations to come

t

Continuing with its commitment to the environment, Avvashya Foundation, the CSR arm of Allcargo Logistics, undertook a major tree plantation drive on occasion of World Environment Day. The initiative to plant 141,000 fruit-bearing trees in a fortnight’s time was flagged off on July 2, 2017 with 10,268 saplings being planted on the first day itself. This was the third successful year of the drive under the foundation’s Maitree initiative; the aim is to plant one million trees in five years.

The drive is being carried out in association with NGOs like Light of Life Trust (LOLT), Nirmala Niketan College of Social Work and Maharashtra State Rural Livelihood Mission (MSRLM). These trees are being planted in the rural areas of Maharashtra, including Raigad, Palghar and neighbouring districts.

This year’s initiative was flagged off from Karjat in the presence of Mrs Kamal Damaniya, project director, LOLT; Kanhaiya Somane, agriculture instructor; agriculture assistants Mayuresh Mali and Sagar Kewari; Vidyanand Ovhal, public relations officer; Haribhau Vhola, community mobiliser, and computer teacher Karishma Kolambe.

After planting 239,000 trees in the last two years, this year’s 141,000 trees will be planted across 66 villages in the tribal and underdeveloped parts of the state. Speaking on the launch of this year’s initiative, Dr Nilratan Shende, deputy general manager, Allcargo Logistics said, “Global warming is a disconcerting environmental reality. We owe a lot to nature and have a responsibility towards future generations. Maitree project’s twin objectives of conservation of environment and promotion of livelihood is a step towards addressing environment challenges and alleviation of poverty by promoting supplementary income.”

The Avvashya team will work together with over 1,700 farmers across Karjat, Jawahar and Mokhada blocks in Raigad and Palghar to accomplish this year’s task. Under Maitree, the foundation also works closely with the farmers of the region to inculcate conducive agricultural practices and promote inclusive community development. Badges of Vanmitra (friends of trees) were given to each and every beneficiary. These beneficiaries would be ambassadors for conservation efforts at the village level.

Commenting on the occasion, Arathi Shetty, non-executive director of Allcargo and Avvashya Foundation said, “Environmental sustainability is emerging to be one of the important factors across businesses globally. These initiatives are an excellent way to reduce the carbon footprint and are also a very good way to pay back to the society. I would like to thank our partner associations for their support and would like to congratulate the farmers and their families for their enthusiasm and participation in the tree plantation drive.”

To increase awareness about preserving the environment among colleagues and associates all over the world, Allcargo released a video on World Environment Day. Bringing back memories of a time when children played in parks that were home to green trees and chirping birds, when ponds had clean water and people leaved in the lap of nature, the video inspires us preserve the environment for the sake of future generations.

Bali Asia Pacific meet renews resolve to ACT, powers agenda for the future

This was one ACT-ion packed conference at ECU Worldwide. True to the year’s theme of Act Local, Connect Regional and Transform Global (ACT), more than 100 team members from across the globe pooled synergies at the Annual Asia Pacific (APAC) Business Development meeting in Bali. The three-day conference, hosted from April 26-28 by ECU’s Team Indonesia, saw enriching group sessions and intense one-to-one meetings in keeping with this year’s agenda.

In true Balinese tradition, our chairman, Shashi Kiran Shetty, declared the conference open by resounding the gong. He shared his thoughts on performance of ECU Worldwide last year and the way forward for 2017. He thanked all ECU members for the exceptional hard work and emphasised on the need to ‘Innovate and Reinvent’, the annual ECU theme, in their respective capacities.

The 10 point agenda set the tone for the conference. Technology, customer centricity and talent enhancement remained the key points throughout the discussions.

The conference was planned to have the senior leaders participate in panel discussion, discussing the company’s digital presence, employee value proposition and enhancing global efficiency. All the factors which are integral the group’s growth and customer service. ECU Worldwide is laying plans for digital transformation and some initiatives are underway across the globe to enable better productivity and efficiency. Some key points emerged in these discussion are being put to test and implemented in different geographies.

A talk by Adrian Jacklowsky, accredited trainer from Gustav Kaeser Training International inspired the participants to clean up their “looking glasses”, a metaphor for a person’s perspective.

An energetic team building session was arranged by the beach. The theme was “Star Wars” and the objective of the game was to collaborate within the team as well as work along with the other teams and “suppliers” to share knowledge and maximize on resources. The final round was the “Grand battle” where teams had to destroy the competition’s fort! The evening came to an end on the white sand beach of Nusa Dua with the sunset in the background.

The ECU APAC annual meet has been driving the group towards growth in the region which seems very promising, in living up to the promise of the region being the engine for the world economy.
