Striking the right balance with business, golf and success stories

The World Corporate Golf Challenge (WCGC) 2021, one of leading corporate golf events in the world and the biggest one in India, concluded its national finals at ITC Classic Golf & Country Club on 12th December 2021, after regional legs at Mumbai (20th November 2021), Bangalore (28th November 2021), Pune (4th December 2021) and Delhi (11th December 2021). In an endeavour to give impetus to sports and golf in particular, Allcargo Logistics and Gati-KWE partnered as co-sponsors of WCGC.

An international corporate golf event involving more than 7500 executives in 40 countries, this edition of the WCGC saw over 400 passionate golfers from across the industry, government and embassies, participate at four locations in India, to make it to the final 16 (4 winners at each location). These winners then competed amongst themselves at the national finals where the top two made it to the global final, to be held in Portugal in the summer of 2022.

Bringing senior leaders of the Indian corporate together

Sports, by their very nature, are a perfect way to bring individuals together in an atmosphere that is relaxed and completely different from that at their work and offices.

For CxOs of the Indian corporate sector, WCGC was an opportunity to not just showcase stellar golfing skills, but also meet and interact with peers, competitors, partners and prospective customers.

As co-sponsors of the tournament, Allcargo Logistics and Gati-KWE invited several senior leaders to participate on their behalf, thus powering a platform to forge new associations and strengthen existing ones.

Tee-ing off with some of India’s most talented lady golfers

In keeping with their long-standing commitment towards contributing to sports, Allcargo and Gati-KWE are all set to support three talented Indian lady golfers – Avani Prashanth (15 years), Pranavi Urs (18 years) and Sneha Singh (17 years), for the next three years. They show great promise in the sport of golf, have significant achievements to their credit, and have been identified as potential medal-winners with the capabilities to represent the country at an international level.

These athletes also participated in the tournament and the Bangalore and Delhi legs saw Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty, Chairman, Allcargo Logistics, ECU Worldwide and Gati, tee-off with Pranavi Urs and Sneha Singh respectively.

Interesting customer experiences

While the WCGC was all about golf, it did make for some heartwarming interactions with customers.

An instance that particularly stood out, for the Allcargo and Gati-KWE team members was when a senior gentleman, Mr. Amarsinh Abhaysinh Parmar, on seeing the Gati-KWE branding, recounted how 20 years back, he engaged Gati-KWE’s Art Express service to transport a mud art piece of around 8×10 from the Kutch region of Gujarat to his home. He was all praises for the professionalism as he mentioned how there wasn’t a single scratch or movement of sand – it was that carefully transported. When asked if he had a photo of it, since he did not have it on his phone, he actually called up someone at his home and got them to click and share photos of the art with the team.

Giveaways, contests and excitement

Attendees at the WCGC played a number of on-course contests that helped keep up the enthusiasm and competitive spirit, while also adding to the lively atmosphere on the course.

Allcargo and Gati-KWE ran a contest for ‘closest to pin on second shot’ at their sponsored hole in all four locations. In addition to declaring winners who made it to the next round, even contest winners received a trophy during the prize distribution.

Conclusion

With business leaders forming bonds that go beyond business and the sport of golf along with talented young golfers receiving the boost and visibility to drive further success in the long-term, the WCGC truly leveraged the transformative power of sports in its tournaments across India.
